BOLDLY MAKING ROOM FOR

NEW MEMORIES

Assisting older adults in preserving memories

and managing their abundance of possessions

in a thoughtful, client-led process.

Meet Liz

At the age of 14, I spent my weekends mopping floors at a local nursing home.  There I met Delia D. - a small, frail woman from Ireland.  She was confined to her bed, and yet told such wonderful stories that her life seemed exciting and wonderful.  I looked forward to working in her room each weekend and listening to these amazing tales.  I was not much of a housekeeper, but I fell in love with the people I served and relished every fascinating life story.  In my adolescent mind, these were just sad people waiting to die.  I quickly realized that despite their infirmities, everyone had a story – funny, sad, courageous, poignant.   If I were patient and managed to ask the right questions, people would open up to me and share their knowledge and insights.  I was forever hooked!

I studied Gerontology in college and have worked with older adults in varied jobs for the past 40 years.   What have I learned in that time?  As we get older, people stop listening. Our opinions matter less, our stories are not relevant, our decisions are questioned, and our well-meaning loved ones often speak for us, not to us.

I want to give the control back to YOU so that your stories can be heard.

For years I have watched family members simultaneously mourn the passing of a parent, while also having to deal with all the possessions that were left behind.  Too often, most of it gets tossed because the task is just too overwhelming.  There is a concept in Sweden called Dostandning – loosely meaning “Cleaning out your crap so others don’t have to do it when you’re dead!”

As a society, we don’t talk about death.  And yet it is the one thing we all do.  So let’s talk about it – plan for it – and take some control!

  • Do I want to stay in my home and continue to enjoy my life?

  • Am I living in the past and not enjoying the present or looking forward to the future?

  • Do I want people to visit, but my home is uninviting?

  • Is my house so disorganized that getting ready to go out takes ages?

After spending decades guiding older adults through the process of decluttering, streamlining, and down-sizing, I am uniquely qualified to understand the physical and emotional challenges of change as we age.  Let me help you organize your space with the things that serve you now!

My Mission

To assist older adults in preserving memories and managing their abundance of possessions in a

thoughtful, client-led process.

Why Now?

Did you have to clean out your parents’ home after they passed away?

As we age, we often look around to see that we have accumulated large quantities of possessions over the years.  Who is going to take care of these things when we are no longer here? What will happen to our treasured possessions and memories when we are gone?  I can help you take control and make decisions that are right for you and your family.

Give a gift to your loved ones... manage your possessions now!

How Does It Work?

I offer custom services to people wishing to preserve their memories for future generations as they near the final chapter of their lives.  Simultaneously, clients may wish to declutter their living space for safety, peace of mind, or simply to not burden their loved ones with the cleaning out process. Creative methods can be implemented to preserve your important memories, photos, and family heritage items.   A personalized Project Plan will be created to meet your individual needs and carry out your wishes.

My Services

Getting started is always the hardest part.

There is so much to do and even the thought of trying to get organized can be overwhelming.

That’s where I come in.

I start with a FREE consultation in your home to develop a comprehensive plan for your project.
But we will start with small, achievable goals!
Once we see a bit of success, we can build on that energy until the whole project is complete.

Transparency
&
Pricing

Sadly, fraud is rampant these days and seniors are an especially vulnerable target.  I pledge to be transparent with our mutually developed project plan, any agreed upon changes, and the associated costs.
Everything will be in writing signed by both parties.

Our initial consultation is always complimentary.
I will spend an hour or two with you, in your space, discussing your goals and hopes for your project.

Once we agree on a path forward, I will develop a Project Plan to meet your needs.

We offer two options for pricing:
Per Project:     This is ideal for people who have a clear vision of what they would like accomplished
                               through this process.

  • A total estimate of project costs, time commitments and agreed upon schedule.

  • Addendums may be added at any point and will be in writing and signed by both parties.

  • 50% of Project estimate due at signing.

  • Remaining fees will be scheduled based on the project timeline.

Hourly:            This pricing structure works for people who would like to be a bit more methodical in their
approach to the project and may wish to add services or change directions.

  • $60/hour

  • Additional costs for outside services* (movers, storage, memory keeping supplies, etc.)

  • Billable bi-weekly

*I have built a network of trusted vendors and businesspeople to help facilitate the needs of my clients.  I do not act as a sub-contractor.  Rather I search out and contact the needed service and assist in getting things set up for you.  I do not do third party billing.
